Italy Bans DeepSeek Amid Global Security Concerns
The Chinese chatbot DeepSeek, which has dominated app download charts, is facing increasing regulatory scrutiny. Italy’s privacy authority, Garante, has banned the app over insufficient transparency about data usage, while France and Ireland have launched investigations into potential risks to user privacy.
The Czech National Cyber and Information Security Agency (NÚKIB) has also issued warnings, urging users to be cautious with newly popular apps like DeepSeek, citing risks to personal data and concerns about ethical standards. NÚKIB advises users not to input sensitive information into chatbots and to download apps only from official stores.
As DeepSeek’s global presence grows, so do debates over its potential for censorship, data misuse, and its implications for regulatory frameworks worldwide.
