Italy’s Il Foglio Publishes World’s First AI-Generated Newspaper
Italian newspaper Il Foglio has claimed to be the first in the world to publish an entirely AI-generated edition. The special four-page issue, called Il Foglio AI, was created using artificial intelligence for everything—from writing and headlines to quotes and even irony.
Editor Claudio Cerasa described the project as a journalistic experiment to explore AI’s impact on news production. Journalists only provided prompts, while AI handled the rest.
The edition features articles on Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, and Italy’s economy. While the content is structured and clear, it lacks direct human quotes.
The final page even includes AI-generated letters to the editor, questioning AI’s future role. Cerasa called it “a real newspaper” and a way to test AI’s practical application in journalism.
